Travel to Antigua

We drove from Guatemala City to the City of Antigua. It was the first capital of Guatemala.

When we first arrived in Antigua, we stopped at a monastery. Beautiful and green grounds and beautiful flowers. Of course they were selling items.

It was very beautiful in the center area. Frank took a picture of me and the sales girl by a small fountain. There were beautiful birds placed through out.

We got pictures of the city of Antigua. The center plaza, a street and a ruined Catholic church. There were shops everywhere but they were inside the buildings. It was fun to sit and watch the people. We had lunch at a Burger King.

Frank remembers the Santa Catalina arch with the clock on top when he was in the town of Antigua years ago. As we were going to our next stop, our driver pointed out the volcano that was letting out smoke. It is the smaller volcano on the left, called the volcan de fuego or volcano of fire. It is constantly active letting our steam and gas from its top daily. The other volcano is named Acatenango.

This is at a textile store. The lady is showing us how they weave the table runners. Frank is talking to the lady who has tied her baby on her back with a textile cloth. Notice all the many items of cloth she has for sale. Upstairs there was a museum of the different dress and colors for the different areas. I got a blouse with an embroidery design on the front.

We were driven to the Apple Factory. It is a small building where they make things out of wood. The man is using a machete to shape the wood. I bought 3 wooden apples in a wooden dish, and 12 people napkin holders. We ended the day on a look-out point to take pictures of the city of Antigua and the volcan de Agua or volcano of water.
