Ox Cart Ride and Shoe Making Shop

We enjoyed a slow short ride in the wagon.
Grandpa is talking to Elder Spencer. We worked
with him in Argentina on a wheel chair project.

Then we toured some more of the sites.
This is where we learned how they made shoes.

Ft. Madison, Carthage, Nauvoo

We cross the Mississippi river to get to Ft.
Madison Iowa. Just as we crossed over on the
bridge, the alarm sounded and they stop traffic
and open the bridge to allow barges to go through.

Notice how big the barge is that came through.
We stopped at the park to watch the barge and
then we went to the museum.

Then we stopped at the linger longer park.
This was where the saints crossed the
Mississippi when they left Nauvoo.

Then we drove to Carthage Jail.  The Hughes were
working there and gave us the tour.

This is the room that Joseph and Hyrum Smith
were killed in.  That is the bullet hole put in the
door and the clock stopped at 5:20.

When we got back to Carthage we visited some
of the sites.  This is Brayden operating the press.

Bonaparte Pottery

We drove over to Ft. Madison for Frank to get
his haircut.  But the barber was at lunch.  So we
went for a drive, over to Bonaparte.  We passed
an Amish horse and buggy.

We parked at the pottery place and started to
walk around, when this lady came out and
told us the history of this antique pottery shop.
She told us of the historic pottery kiln. The molds found on the grounds
she still uses.

Pisgah National Forest

Today we drove to Pisgah National Forest,
which is about 15 minutes from Bervard.
Our first stop was Looking Glass Falls.

Then we walked through the Cradle of Forestry.
It has historic cabins and exhibits that
show how America's first forestry school began.

Me, Shirlene and Fancy crossing one of
the bridges on the trail.

Chimney Rock

To get to the top of chimney rock, we hiked
up about 500 stairs.  Frank did not
try to do it, but Shirlene and I made it to the top.

It was a great view from the top.

After the hike we had lunch at the
Old Rock Cafe.

DuPont State Forest

"unto as many as received Me
gave I power to become the sons
of God; power to obtain
eternal life."
Doctrine and Covenants 45:8

We started off by going to
downtown Brevard, where the
trees were in a beautiful blossom.
We ate lunch at Rocky's ice cream parlor.
Frank was able to get his picture taken
with Elvis.

Then we went up DuPont State Forest
and did some hiking.  The first falls
we hiked to was Hooker Falls, which
drops about 12 feet into Cascade Lake.

Next we hiked to Triple Falls.  This picture is
at the bottom.  I hiked up a steep incline and
got the picture of the triple falls.

The last falls we went to was High Falls. Even Shirlene's
dog, Fancy, went with us.  It is the tallest of the falls,
cascading down 120 feet of solid granite.  It was
a great day, I love waterfalls.
