Along the Coast

"Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works. 1 Chronicles 16:9

Our first stop was in Libertad at the fish pier. Brother Lopez, was our guide, the   Petersens, Us, Thompsons, Clarks, and Sister Wegkamp.  Frank is watching them clean and cut up the fish.

We drove along the coast, through the tunnels to the coastal city of Acaljutla where we had lunch.  The restaurant overlooked the ocean.  I, Marilee Clark, Lisa Wegkamp walked down to the shore.  Had to get a picture of the tree roots.  These ladies are doing their wash in the water troff.

Picture of the shore line, with the waves coming in.

Next we went into a secured area on the port.  We saw battle ships, big cargo ships and met some sailors from Taiwan.  They are building a new church in Acaljutla and we were able to go see it.  The Bishop and Pres. Petersen observing the work.

Last Day in El Salvador

This was the day Sister Marie came in from San Miguel.  It was a 2 hour bus ride to San Salvador.  We had breakfast together and then went to the 10:00 session at the temple.  Then at 5:00 another person came to visit Brent. Amy took a group picture in front of the temple.

Brent was able to teach this man and his family.  The man had  pictures of  our family that Brent had given him.  Even one of us building a snow man.  People do remember and cherish those that teach them the gospel.

Beaces of El Salvador

"And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas; and God saw that it was good."  Genesis 1:10
We drove along the coast today.  Our first stop was the Libertad beach. We also walked down the fresh fish market pier. Many different kinds of fish, shell fish, dried fish, and saw them cleaning out the fish. I was glad when we were done with that.
A beach with lots of sea shells was our next stop.  It also was a beach with lots of rocks.  Amy and Lindy gathered lots of shells.

Our next stop was Playa El Tunco.  We had to walk down to the beach. On the way we passed this place with Franks name on it.
I got a picture of the buildings that we walked by to get to the beach.  Amy, Lindy, Brent, and our driver, Bro. Melendez

This beach is know for this interesting rock formation.  This beach is also a surfing beach.

We stopped at Betos to eat.  It was a nice restaurant with a great view of the ocean.

San Miguel

"Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.  I am Jesus Christ."  D&C 19:23-24

We drove 3 hours to get to San Miguel and we were 15 minutes late for church.  Brent was able to met people he knew while on his mission here 16 years ago.
On the left is the Savoria family.  They cooked for the missionaries. On the right is a young lady Brent baptised.  She went through the temple for her endownment 2 weeks ago.

The lady on the left is Marie Angels. When she was baptised her family left her.  She went on a mission, is gospel doctrine teacher and a seminary teacher.  After years of marriage they were finally blessed with a son.  She rode a bus for 2 hours to attend the temple with us on Tuesday. What a blessing to met these faithful people.  We got home in time to attend the Easter program in our ward.

Saturday is a Special day

"A friend loveth at all times," Proverbs 17:17

Wednesday we drove around Soyapango trying to find a place Brent would remember. He was told that Bishop Castro, the family that fed him when he was a missionary, worked at the temple. Bishop Castro invited us to breakfast.  We first stopped at the church house, and he climed a mango tree to get some green mangos for Brent.

He showed us around the church.

Then to his house for breakfast.  An aunt of the family cooking papusas.  On right is Bishop Castros wife and her 97 year old father is at the table.

A group picture of the whole family.  I was grateful for this opportunity to be with the Castro family. Thank you for the pleasant time together. Saturday afternoon we spent shopping at the artisan markets.
