Pioneer Homes

 Today we walked to some of the pioneer homes

that are close to us.  Heber C. Kimball's home

was the first one we toured.  They had them 

decorated for Christmas. 

 Heber C. Kimball and his wife Vilate, and 

their three children arrived in Nauvoo with

Almost nothing, having lost virtually everything they

owned from the persecutions in Missouri.

They lived in a crude lean-to, a small log home,

before finishing their brick home in 1845.

Due to mob violence, the Kimballs lived there only 4 months.

 This is us standing on the porch of 

 the Heber C. Kimball home.

Next we walked to the Wilford Woodruff home.

Building his brick home in Nauvoo, Wilford designed

it to be cozy.  He added a fireplace to every room--

eight in all--and selected appropriate furnishings.

Once the home was completed, Wilford, his wife

Phoebe, and their children spent fewer that 100 nights

there before joining the exodus west.

This is the back of our apartment.

That night the Taylors invited us over for dinner.

Then we went to the play the Rendezuous with 

the other missionaries.  It was the last week for 

the play to be put on.
