Prairie Grass Burn

Endured valiantly for the
gospel of Jesus Christ.
Doctrine and Covenants 121:29

We are standing in the prairie grass before
it was burned.
Lighting the fire. In the background
you can see us talking to an
Elder Hawkins, a site missionary.

It only took 3 minutes to burn.  They say
you cannot out run a prairie grass fire.

Relief Society

The Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter Day Saints was Organized on
March 17th 1842 in the upper room of the
Red Brick Store in Nauvoo Illinois.

I played the part of Sarah Cleveland

John Taylor ordained Sarah Cleveland as the
second counselor in the presidency.

My one line was, "I move then that we call our
organization The Nauvoo Female Relief Society."

All of the sisters, in front of the Red Brick Store.

Valentine Dance

We attended a Valentine Dance on the
third floor of the
Historic Nauvoo Cultural Hall.
This is a picture of the temple taken from there.

They told us that this is the floor that Joseph and
Emma danced on.  We are standing in the
back corner.  Below is a picture of
President and Sister Irion.

Dancing to our song
I Love How You Love Me.

Nauvoo Exodus

Lydia often looked around her little home and
wondered if she would again be driven from all
her comforts.  One evening Newel came home
from council where he had been for hours, with
a very sad face.
"Well, dear, what is to be done?  Why are you
so downcast?"
Reason enough, my girl.  Brother Brigham
and the council have decided that we must once
more turn our faces westward, and again flee into
the wilderness.  The outrages of the mob have
become so frequent, and they are so encouraged in
their deviltry by those who should protect us, that
our leaders have given the word to take up the
line of march."
"If it be so, Newel, it will ill become us to
murmur or indulge in useless regrets.  Our place is
with the kingdom of God. Let us at once set
about making preparations to leave."
The winter of 1845 was spent by most of the
Saints in laboring in the temple.  As soon as it
became generally known that another exodus was
to be made, all who were able devoted their time to
receiving their blessings in the house of God.
Lydia Knight's History

We attended the re-enactment of the
exodus from Nauvoo.  We walked down to
the river where they crossed.

Family Home Evening

"In the strength of the Lord
thou canst do all things."
Alma 20:4

This is our Family Home Evening Group.
The couple in the middle spoke to us
about the building of the temple.

The Henries furnished home made
ice cream for refreshments.
The plaque reads
Money can't buy happiness
But it can buy cows
and cows make milk
and milk makes ice cream
and ice cream makes you
HAPPY

"Be of good cheer, for I will
lead you along." D&C 78:18

In Hamilton Ill. there is a Mexican
Restaurant that we go to for lunch.
This day when we stopped for lunch, the
other missionaries were already there
celebrating a birthday, so we joined them.

and on earth peace, good will
toward men." Luke 2:14

This was our Christmas day dinner with
the other temple missionaries.
